Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment facility was launched in Cambodia on 2–3 June 2026

¨     Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment facility was launched in Cambodia on 2–3 June 2026.

¨     This system has been integrated with Cambodia’s national QR payment standard, KHQR.

¨     With this integration, Indian tourists can make payments at merchant outlets in Cambodia by scanning KHQR codes using UPI-enabled applications.

¨     UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is India’s real-time digital payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

¨     KHQR is Cambodia’s national QR code standard used for payments at retail stores, restaurants, and tourist destinations.

¨     The integration covers more than 4.5 million merchant locations in Cambodia.

¨     This initiative represents the first phase of a cross-border interoperable payment corridor.

¨     In the next phase, Cambodian users are expected to be able to make payments in India at UPI merchant locations using KHQR-enabled applications.

¨     The cross-border facility was developed through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited and ACLEDA Bank PLC.

¨     The launch took place in Phnom Penh, in the presence of the Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, Dr. Chea Serey, and representatives of the Reserve Bank of India.
