Odisha emerged as the best-performing state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0

¨     Odisha emerged as the best-performing state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).

¨     According to data available till 8 May 2026, Odisha ranked first in house construction and completion between March 2025 and March 2026.

¨     The achievement reflects effective implementation of urban housing schemes and strong administrative coordination in the state.

¨     PMAY-U 2.0 was launched in September 2024.

¨     It is a central government housing scheme aimed at providing pucca houses to urban poor and middle-income families.

¨     The scheme places special emphasis on technical monitoring and digital tracking.

¨     It uses digital processes such as geo-tagging, foundation-stage tracking, and construction completion monitoring.

¨     Under PMAY-U 2.0, Odisha received approval for a total of 24,625 houses.

¨     Out of these, 23,464 proposed sites had been geo-tagged by 8 May 2026.

¨     By 5 May 2026, foundation work had started for 3,134 houses.

¨     Construction of 2,008 houses had already been completed.

¨     Odisha’s progress has been considered faster compared to many other states.

¨     The scheme is being implemented jointly by the state Housing and Urban Development Department and urban local bodies.

¨     Geo-tagging records the exact location of each construction site, improving transparency and monitoring.

¨     Foundation work is treated as the official beginning of construction activity.

¨     Completion reports are submitted through a digital monitoring system after construction is finished.
