appointed as India’s Executive Director at the World Bank on 4 June 2026.

He will represent India
at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C..
¨
His tenure will be three
years from the date he assumes office.
¨
He will succeed
Parameswaran Iyer.
¨
The Board of Executive
Directors of the World Bank oversees the institution’s operations, policies,
and lending decisions.
¨
Executive Directors
represent member countries or groups of countries at the World Bank.
¨
The appointment was
approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
¨
The ACC also approved an
extension of Parameswaran Iyer’s tenure beyond 19 June 2026 until Mishra
formally assumes charge.

Before this appointment,
Neelkanth Mishra served as Chief Economist at Axis Bank.
¨
He also served as Head of
Global Research and Whole-Time Director at Axis Capital.
¨
He is a part-time member
of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.
¨ He also serves as the part-time Chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India.
¨ Additionally, he is a part-time member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
