Minister of State for Women and Child Development
delivered India’s national intervention during the General Discussion at the
70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-70) at the United
Nations Headquarters.The Minister highlighted India’s progress in promoting
women-led development and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to gender
equality and access to justice.Noted “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” philosophy
underpins inclusive, women-led growth.Over 100 million women in ~9 million SHGs
have transformed rural economies via leadership and entrepreneurship.The
Minister noted that women are leading more than 1,000 start-ups supported
through Atal Incubation Centres.Over 8 lakh women serve as directors in active
companies, boosting corporate participation.More than 25 million rural women
have received digital training under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital
Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA).The Minister highlighted that the Nari Shakti
Vandan Adhiniyam provides reservation of one-third seats for women in
Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.The Minister highlighted that about
39,000 children are benefiting from quality crèche facilities under the Palna
Scheme.The Minister noted that more than 72% of 29 million rural houses built
under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are owned wholly or jointly by women.

The Commission on the
Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body under the
UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) dedicated exclusively to gender
equality and women’s empowerment.
¨ Established in 1946, it shapes global standards, monitors progress, and promotes rights for women and girls.
¨ The CSW plays a key role in reviewing implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one of the most important global frameworks for gender equality.
