Jharkhand recorded a zero dropout rate at the primary level in 2024-25

¨     Jharkhand recorded a zero dropout rate at the primary level in 2024-25.

¨     The data was highlighted in the UDISE+ statistics and a report released by NITI Aayog on 8 May 2026.

¨     The state’s primary dropout rate declined from 6.41 percent in 2014-15 to zero in 2024-25.

¨     The achievement reflects improvements in the education system and efforts to retain students in schools.

¨     Dropout rate refers to the proportion of students who leave school before completing a level of education.

¨     In India, primary education includes Classes 1 to 5, upper primary includes Classes 6 to 8, and secondary education includes Classes 9 to 10.

¨     In Jharkhand, the upper primary dropout rate declined from 7.42 percent to 1.7 percent.

¨     The secondary-level dropout rate decreased from 23.2 percent to 3.5 percent.

¨     UDISE+ is India’s national school education database.

¨     It is used to collect data on enrolment, teachers, school infrastructure, and dropout indicators.

¨     The 2024-25 data showed zero primary dropout rates for both boys and girls in Jharkhand.

¨     In 2022-23, the primary dropout rate in the state was above 11 percent.

¨     Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) represents total enrolment at a level of education as a percentage of the official age-group population for that level.

¨     Jharkhand’s primary GER declined from 109.2 percent in 2014-15 to 92.5 percent in 2024-25.

¨     The secondary-level GER increased from 66.05 percent to 72 percent.

¨     Experts note that GER can exceed 100 percent when students outside the official age group are enrolled at that education level.
