Japan–Philippines Expand Defence Cooperation in Indo-Pacific Region

¨     Japan and the Philippines have expanded defence cooperation.

¨ Both countries have increased joint military exercises and broader military engagement.

¨     Japan and the Philippines are maritime states in the Indo-Pacific region.

¨  Both countries maintain security partnerships with several regional and extra-regional powers.

¨     Bilateral military exercises have been conducted to strengthen defence ties.

¨     Port visits and defence dialogues have also been enhanced.

¨     Both countries are members of the Indo-Pacific security framework.

¨    Japan and the Philippines share maritime security concerns related to the South China Sea and East China Sea.

¨   Japan has provided defence equipment and capacity-building assistance to the Philippines.

¨     Joint exercises include coordination between naval and air forces.

¨     Search and rescue exercises have also been conducted.

¨     Interoperability training has been given special focus.

¨ The exercises aim to improve communication, operational readiness, and coordination in maritime areas.

¨  The Philippines has also conducted military exercises with the United States, Australia, and other regional partners
