Indian Air Force–IIT Bombay Collaboration:
Predictive Maintenance for Su-30MKI Fleet
¨
Indian Air Force (IAF)
signed three agreements on 27 May 2026 with the Indian Institute of Technology
Bombay for developing predictive maintenance technologies for the Sukhoi
Su-30MKI fleet.
¨
These agreements focus on
predictive and scheduled maintenance systems for military aviation
applications.
¨
The Su-30MKI is a
twin-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.
¨
It was developed by
Russia’s Sukhoi and customised for India under a licensed production
arrangement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
¨
Predictive maintenance
uses sensor data, diagnostics, and analytics to assess equipment condition and
anticipate failures before they occur.
¨
Prognostic maintenance
estimates the remaining useful life of systems and components.
¨
Prescriptive maintenance
recommends specific maintenance actions based on data analysis and system
models.
¨ These technologies aim to improve the efficiency, safety, and operational readiness of the IAF aircraft fleet.
¨ The collaboration is part of India’s broader defence R&D ecosystem involving academic institutions, public sector units, and the armed forces.
