India Accelerates Defence Modernization, Advances Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft Program

¨ India is accelerating its defence modernisation efforts with progress in the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

¨  Defence Research and Development Organisation is playing a key role along with the government.

¨     The procurement process for the AMCA project is moving forward.

¨ Selected private sector players are expected to receive Requests for Proposal (RFPs) soon.

¨  This initiative aims to boost private participation in indigenous fighter aircraft manufacturing.

¨  It also seeks to enhance domestic production capacity and reduce import dependence.

¨     India is exploring partnership opportunities for sixth-generation fighter aircraft.

¨     Discussions have reportedly begun with select global multi-nation programmes.

¨  This reflects India’s intent to keep pace with next-generation technologies like stealth, artificial intelligence, and network-centric warfare systems.

¨     India is also making significant progress in missile technology.

¨   The Agni-VI intercontinental ballistic missile programme is ready to move forward pending government approval.

¨   Hypersonic glide missile programmes, including long-range anti-ship missiles, are in advanced stages.

¨ These developments will strengthen India’s strategic and national security capabilities.
