Central Government launched the Mizoram Ginger Mission with an outlay of ₹189.79 crore

¨     The Central Government launched the Mizoram Ginger Mission on 13 May 2026 with an outlay of ₹189.79 crore.

¨     The project is named “Mizoram Ginger Unique Selling Proposition (USP) – Sustainable Cultivation and Value Chain Development Project.”

¨     The mission aims to strengthen ginger production, processing, and marketing in Mizoram.

¨     Mizo Ginger is a Geographical Indication (GI) certified agricultural product of Mizoram.

¨     The mission plans to promote pharma-grade Mizo Ginger in international markets.

¨     The project includes sustainable farming, quality control, and food safety measures.

¨     It also covers agricultural mechanization, solar energy use, post-harvest management, and processing.

¨     The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region approved ₹30.13 crore under the North Eastern Council’s targeted development component.

¨     The approved funds will be used for post-harvest management and processing infrastructure.

¨     NITI Aayog declared Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India” in 2025.

¨     Ginger cultivation in the state is linked with procurement under the Bana Kaih support scheme.

¨     In 2025, Mizoram spent ₹141.16 crore on ginger procurement.

¨     The state recovered only ₹12.78 crore through ginger sales.

¨   In April 2025, out of 24,298 quintals of ginger procured under the Bana Kaih scheme, 18,600 quintals remained unsold.

¨   The unsold ginger stock was stored in Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouses at Sairang.
